Art of Noises II Poster

On the 29th November 2018, EMPRES and Modern Art Oxford presented another evening of aural adventure in the shape of Art of Noises II. We took over the café and basement to present a series of innovative performances and installations to explore the boundaries between music, sound and technology.

For this special event, we were fortunate to be joined by the legendary BBC Radiophonic Workshop for a hands-on electronic music masterclass and discussion, covering topics ranging from the avant-garde works of Delia Derbyshire and Daphne Oram, to the Dr Who theme tune!

We also welcomed internationally renowned sound artist Signe Lidén, who produced a live site-specific installation - Field Modulations. Liden’s work is interested in how places and their histories resonate; in memory, through narratives and various materials, as ideological manifestations and political territories.

There were additional performances from the Oxford Music graduate and undergraduate community, Young Womens Music Project and Wythamscapes sound installation based on Wytham Woods 75 th Anniversary.
