The Faculty of Music's Electronic Music Practice Research group (EMPRes) aims to promote and advance research and public dissemination of electronic media and experimental music practice. It does so by working with artists, musicians, composers, producers and researchers from a wide range of disciplines interested in creating new music and sound based works through investigative practice.

At the heart of EMPRes' rationale is the act of listening, and the creative possibilities of sound recording, playback and transmission. The group's definition of electronic and experimental music practice is broad, including electronic and electroacoustic music, sonic art, contemporary classical, popular music and jazz.
